They Did It!!

You may remember a couple of weeks ago, I posed the question 'What would you do?' about a family who on adopting their daughter in China, learned that she had two brothers she would be leaving behind.

This incredible family could not leave without making a promise to try to reunite the family. Well, after a huge outpouring of support from total strangers, the family just received word that the youngest brother is approved by CCAA for them to adopt. They are officially matched to bring him home. They are also in the final stages of fund raising to pay the fees and are 85% there. This story just gives me goosebumps. There is still another older brother, who is too old to be adopted left in China, but with two bio sibs and a family to support him in the US already, I am hopeful he will receive a visa to join the family at a later date.

Thank you to everyone that has helped raise money and awareness for this family. It is amazing what we can achieve when we work together. Even us, regular families with no money or fame, can make miracles happen. i am so happy for this family, especially for the young girl who now knows she will see her brother/s very soon.

Friday Funnies

Importance of Walking
...

1. Walking 20 minutes can add to your life.
This enables you at 85 years old to spend an additional
5 months in a nursing home at $7000 per month.

2. My grandpa started walking
five miles a day when he was 60..
Now he's 97 years old...
and we haven't a clue where the hell he is.

3. I like long walks,
especially when they are taken
by people who annoy me.

4. The only reason I would take up walking
is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.

5. I have to walk early in the morning,
before my brain figures out what I'm doing..

6. I joined a health club last year,
spent about 400 bucks.
Haven' t lost a pound.
...apparently you have to actually go there.

7. Every time I hear the dirty word ''exercise'',
I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

8. I do have flabby thighs,
but fortunately my stomach covers them.

9. The advantage of exercising every day
is so when you die, they'll say,
''Well, he looks good, doesn't he?''

10. If you are going to try cross-country skiing,
start with a small country.

11. I know I got a lot of exercise
the last few years,......
just getting over the hill was enough.

12. We all get heavier as we get older,
because there's a lot more information in our skulls.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

AND

13. Every time I start thinking too much
about how I look,
I just find a Happy Hour
and by the time I leave,
I look just fine....

TGIF!!!

Stand By Me

Every now and then I see something that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and my skin gets covered in goosebumps.

This video is one of those things. I love to see people around the world, working together across borders, languages and cultures to find ways to help each other.

Underneath, we are all the same, just doing our best in the world. I will never forget the first time I really understood the idea of working together globally. It makes me feel incredibly old now, but watching the stars of the day perform at LiveAid back in July 1985 was a pivotal moment for me. The world got so much smaller and I realized that every person has a responsibility to make the world a better place where and however they can. We all have our individual talents, we just have to use them for good. Together we make a difference.

I also 'blame' my parents for who I am, but that is a whole other story for another day....

What would you do?

This is a question we often ask ourselves, but rarely have to answer. For one family this question is one that they cannot ignore. I was amazed to read this family’s story today. Some people are just incredible and truly deserve all the support they can get.

I have no idea what I would do if I was faced with the difficult decision they have recently had to make. One thing for sure, like these parents I would not shy away from what I felt was right and I would hope that those that can help support this family do so. Please take a moment to read their amazing story and if you feel moved to do so, please consider making a donation to their appeal. If all of us gave just one dollar, their story could have a happy ending.

We adopted our daughter, Chloe in Feb 2009, a 13+ year old girl from Henan. Waited forever it seemed as the first Hague Plague family with our agency to climb the paperwork mountains and wade the Plague filled waters to get to China after 10 LOOONG months to get our girl. We said " we are DONE with China!"

Apparently China was NOT DONE with US.
